Event Description:
To the chagrin of many employers, Maryland has become the sixth state in the nation to adopt a minimum wage of $15.00 per hour.  This new rate will not happen overnight, but, instead, will occur incrementally over a six year period for employers with 15 or more employees, and over a seven year period for employers with less than 15 employees.

This new development, coupled with the federal Department of Labor’s recent proposed increase to the salary basis test, underscores the complex world of wage obligations for employers in Maryland.  These complexities are made even more challenging by the increase in laws and regulations pertaining to the hiring process.

On Wednesday, June 5th, at 9:00 a.m., the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a seminar pertaining to these important new legal developments.  Our featured speaker will be Doug Desmarais of Smith & Downey, P.A.  Doug is a frequent presenter on Maryland labor and employment laws, who will explain both the technical and practical realities of these new wage, hour and hiring laws.
